Becoming rooted
Being planted almost a decade ago, it was time for some updating. Focusing on shepherding and faithfully leading a small, building-less church is more than a full time job. But in 2020, when Cities Church purchased the Summit Avenues historic "church on the hill," some things settled down, and other questions were raised up.
After conducting a capital initiative to complete needed renovations and repairs to the new building, there was another space that needed attention – the website.
Built and shipped in a hurry, the first website design was not geared toward church members. A wealth of educational content was shelved on hidden pages, core beliefs and emphases hadn't been updated for years, and volunteering opportunities were largely unclear. That combined with a largely non-specific "I'm New Here" information left users of all kinds confused and often frustrated with the website.
With all of that in mind, we turned the lights off and went with a dark theme, simplified the navigational structure, and emphasized captivating imagery to give visitors a sense of the space and the people. Since the redesign launched, we've had the chance to continue building out various pages and resources of all sorts.
More to come
We've been working with Cities for over a year now, methodically re-approaching all communications to be better aligned to their updated mission and vision.
